A major host city for international meetings in Canada, Montréal is a veritable “urban United Nations.” We of course speak French and English, but also over 80 other languages in an ambiance that boldly brings together Europe and America. Montréal’s multilingual population gives the city an unmistakably international personality.

Global village

Our reputation as “host city” is steeped in a longstanding tradition spanning decades of immigration nourishing Montréal into a rich cultural capital. People from all over have come to join the original French and English settlers. A quick stroll between neighbourhoods immediately tells the story of how Italians, Spaniards, Greeks, Portuguese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indians, Latin Americans, Antilleans and many others contribute to the local yet global flavour that defines Montréal. The cultural fusion is further reflected in the 5,000 restaurants across the city, always appreciated by participants who also enjoy being culinary tourists.

Not far from these multiethnic neighbourhoods is Montréal’s international district. Home to the highest concentration of international activities and organizations in Canada, it is where the ICAO International Civil Aviation Organization and IATA International Air Transport Association are headquartered, just steps from the Palais. Since it opened in 1983, the Palais has hosted over 1,000 international conventions. And the list keeps growing...
