A major host city for international meetings in Canada, Montréal is a veritable
“urban United Nations.” We of course speak French and English, but also over 80
other languages in an ambiance that boldly brings together Europe and America. Montréal’s
multilingual population gives the city an unmistakably international personality.
Our reputation as “host city” is steeped in a longstanding tradition spanning decades
of immigration nourishing Montréal into a rich cultural capital. People from all
over have come to join the original French and English settlers. A quick stroll
between neighbourhoods immediately tells the story of how Italians, Spaniards, Greeks,
Portuguese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indians, Latin Americans, Antilleans and many others
contribute to the local yet global flavour that defines Montréal. The cultural fusion
is further reflected in the 5,000 restaurants across the city, always appreciated
by participants who also enjoy being culinary tourists.
Not far from these multiethnic neighbourhoods is Montréal’s international district.
Home to the highest concentration of international activities and organizations
in Canada, it is where the ICAO International Civil Aviation Organization and IATA
International Air Transport Association are headquartered, just steps from the Palais.
Since it opened in 1983, the Palais has hosted over 1,000 international conventions.
And the list keeps growing...
